# Stablecoin transaction fees, explained

Converting stablecoins to fiat, or fiat to stablecoins, involves more than one party, and each can add a cost: the spread on the rate, network fees and bank charges. This page explains where stablecoin transaction fees come from and how Sentvia quotes, so you can compare providers on the amount that actually arrives.

## What the spread is

The spread is the difference between the rate a provider quotes you and the market rate at that moment. It is usually the largest part of the cost, and it rarely appears as a separate line, because it is built into the rate. Two quotes with the same headline fee can deliver different amounts for that reason. See [FX services](https://www.sentvia.com/fx) for how we quote, and [supported currencies](https://www.sentvia.com/currencies) for the pairs we convert.

## How Sentvia charges

- **Pricing is agreed per client** during onboarding, based on your volumes and corridors.
- **Each conversion is quoted before you commit.** You approve the quote, the rate is locked, and that is the rate you settle at.
- **The quote tells you what to expect.** Ask us at any point how a quote is made up.

Large single conversions go through the [Prime OTC desk](https://www.sentvia.com/fx/prime-otc), quoted as one trade.

## How to compare providers

1. Ask for the amount that will arrive in your account, not just the rate.
2. Ask whether the rate is locked before you send, or set when the funds arrive.
3. Ask which rail the fiat leg uses, and whether intermediary banks are on the route.
4. Ask whether the account receiving the funds is in your company's name. Ours are: see [named IBAN accounts](https://www.sentvia.com/platform/named-iban-accounts).

FAQ

## Common questions

Why is there no price list?

Pricing is agreed with each client, and each conversion is quoted individually, so a published list would not match what you pay.

When do we know the rate?

Before you send. You approve the quote, and that is the rate the conversion settles at.

Who pays the blockchain network fee?

The sender pays it when the stablecoins are sent. It is set by the network, not by Sentvia.

Can intermediary banks take a deduction?

On international transfers, yes. Correspondent banks on the route can deduct a charge before the funds arrive. Domestic rails such as SEPA and Faster Payments usually involve no intermediary.
